I overhear women
on the phone,
with their husbands,
annoyed, impatient,
breath pushed out, eyes
r o l l i n g ,
Catching mine, looking for camaraderie, sisterhood.
They won’t find sympathy in me.
What I wouldn’t give for one more phone call,
seeing that sweet, dimpled face fill my phone’s screen,
Hearing the voice of my husband my
Gary,
my bumble bee
booming and deep into my ear
One
More
Time.
What I wouldn’t give to hear you say
I love you
one
more
time.
